Whidbey Island Scenic Tour

Updated Jun 17, 2002

July 29 - 30, 2002 weekend you must RSVP to be on this trip

Event sign up deadline is June 21, 2002

Jim Westmacott has again offered to take us on a day trip to explore Whidbey Island. As with last year's trip there is also the option of a weekend away with an overnight stay for those that wish to do this.
In addition Jim has planned a special lunch stop if we get enough participants.
There are lots of neat places to explore on the island, and they all involve fun and scenic roads.

2002 Trip Details

Meet at Custer 08:30 for 09:00 departure. We will plan to do a full circle of the Island this year, driving the twisties along east side of island, with stops at Deception Pass / Coupeville / Langley, and lunch at Bush Point restaurant (Jim has arranged for them to open just for us if we get about 30 warm bodies). Jim has a surprise stop that all will enjoy after lunch, then twisties back up West side and back over Deception Pass. Sure to be an enjoyable trip.

Options for this trip include day drive only, with a lunch stop, or a more extensive north of the island tour/drive, optional overnight in Coupeville, with dinner, and south island tour/drive on day two, returning via Mukilteo/Clinton ferry and I-5.

Whidbey Island is just south of us at the entrance to Puget Sound. State Highway 20 traverses the Island from north to south, and provides some very scenic opportunities. This is known as the Western end of the Cascades Loop. Those who have been on the Leavenworth Tours know about the rest of the Cascades Loop.
The island has several interesting small towns, and wonderful side roads to explore.
Access to the island from the north end starts with the crossing at Deception Pass. At the south end, a short ferry trip takes you to the mainland at Mukeltieo next to the Everett Boeing Plant.
If you have been along on one of the Boeing Tours, and enjoyed the drive on the island, then this trip is for you. We'll have more time to explore side roads and some of the towns. The tour can be done as a day trip or you can choose to extend your exploration by making it an overnight trip.
