BMW Car Club of BC - 2007 Car Control Driver Training Program

Car Control: the Foundation of our Program
Challenge your driving skills and attitudes by starting with a Car Control school, a day packed with fun and excitement, suitable for all drivers. Our first level Driving School courses bring together the fundamentals of confident, safe driving in several exciting one-day courses designed to allow you to explore the limits of vehicle control.
In our Car Control Program we cover key elements vital to improving your driving, such as seating position, steering technique, and vehicle dynamics. Exercises include emergency braking and rear wheel skid control. The program also takes an in-depth look at typical driving scenarios encountered during inner-city driving and how to respond to them. We end the session, with a slalom where the objective is to compete against yourself for consistency, challenging you to utilize the skills learned over the day.
Once you have completed a Car Control course, you then have the opportunity to progress to the next level.: Road Skills

Sunday October 21 - 2007 Winter Skills Car Control Session - Driver Training

October 21, 2007 Winter Car Control - at Pitt Meadows more info here
We've asked Driving Unlimited to offer a session that deals with the elements of Car Control during less than ideal traction conditions. Yes that means a wet skid pad. In the morning we will do Car Control basics with an eye to winter related issues, then after lunch we will do specific exercises that involve limited traction situations using a water truck and a friction reducer on the pavement. Should make for a very interesting day for participants.
Courses Include
 Catered On site Lunch
Fully Qualified Professional Instruction by Driving Unlimited
Full day session limited to 24 Participants
 Course Fee $190
Details and registrition info to be posted by mid August.

Course Content Overview (basic details, specifics may vary by course)

Our Car Control courses start with a 30-minute classroom session. The remainder of the course is spent behind the wheel experiencing four driving exercises, followed a practice session that integrates all the elements via a slalom course.

  1. Vision Slalom Exercise
Experience the importance of looking farther ahead, looking where you want to go, and proper steering techniques.
  2. Emergency Braking Exercise
Practice stopping as quickly as possible with or without Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS).
  3. Braking On A Turn Exercise
We simulate having to panic stop to avoid an obstacle while negotiating a corner.
  4. Collision Avoidance Exercise
Put all the previous techniques together to practice avoiding collisions.
  5. Slalom Exercises
Once you have learned the exercises, we put you on a slalom course where all the previous techniques need to be used together to successfully navigate the course and practice avoiding collisions.
